As I read this section, I wondered how and why Private Newman was so easily swayed by Private Reed to buy into his beliefs and ideas, and then, seemingly just as quickly, recanted what he said and stopped listening to Reed. Why do you think Newman reacted this way (both before and after)? What do you think this says about him?

I think that Newman is some one that is easy to Perseid.I think he acted like that because he think that he is being treated unfairly by the captains.
ReplyDeleteI thought Newman can be easily persuaded by anyone, But I think he still thinks that the captains are treating him unfairly.
ReplyDeleteI think that Newman is easily persuaded by other people also, but i think if the captains knew about Reed telling Newman about his wife not waiting.
ReplyDeleteI also think that Newman is easily persuade, But I think the captains were treating him unfairly in a way but I also think he got what he deserved.
ReplyDeleteGood thinking -- so far -- but none of you fully answered the question, and Angus, your response does not make sense -- you need to read your writing.
ReplyDeleteI think it says that he is a backstabber.
ReplyDeleteI think that Newman is easily persuaded by other people. Also I think if the captains knew about Reed telling Newman about his wife not waiting they would dessert Reed. I think Newman reacted this way because Reed was getting into his mind. For example Reed was saying "How long do you think she's going to wait."I think Newman recanted what he said because he realized that Reed was trying to get into his mind.I think that tells us that his character believes anything other people say.
ReplyDeleteI think when Newman listened to Reed he thought he could get away with things. But after he got in trouble, I thought that Reed was using him so that they would both go to Saint Louis and sell furs and beads for money, but now Newman probably thinks Reed is a backstabber.
ReplyDeleteI also think that Newman is easily persuaded, but I think that punishment was rude.
ReplyDeletei think he reacted like that because once he got his punishment he realized what he said and regretted what he said.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a trader.
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought that Newman was persuaded because of when he said "How long do you think she will be waiting?" so i think Reed got in his head.
