Even though the Nez Perce reacted amiably, they did not want to help guide the Lewis and Clark expedition through the mountains. Why? Why did Captain Lewis desire their help?

  1. I think they thought it was to dangerous. Because Old Toby didn't know where he was going because it had been so long since he crossed the mountains, so they needed help.

  2. I don't think they wanted them to get hurt. because they were un-firmiliar with the mountains so they needed some help so they don't get hurt or lost.

  5. Captain Lewis wanted a guide because the mountains are dangerous and the Nez Perce have been over them and could get them over in the safest way but the Nez Perce probably have never been over the mountains and were scared.
