September 22, 1805

On page 237, Seaman tells us, "It was a wild ride, but all of our canoes made it through unscathed, much to the disappointment of some of the Indians waiting below." What do you think "unscathed" means?

  5. Please explain why you think what you do. In this case, "unscathed" is an adjective, so the word(s) you use to explain "unscathed" must be descriptive adjectives, as well.

  6. I think that it means un-touched or tip top shape.

  7. Unscathed in this context means unscratched or unhurt because either one would work if substituted in this sentence.

  8. It means not damaged because if you put it in the sentence, it could go in the place of unscathed.

  9. I think it means fine, well, or OK. I think that because if you take out unscathed and with one of the other words like the ones I have it would sound fine.
