What message was Captain Lewis sending to Charbonneau on page 147?
I think Captain Lewis was trying to tell him that if they try leaving the expedition then bird woman will die and the child will die of hunger. Also he is being selfish and not worry about himself so much.
Much of this is right on point, but you need to reread the fourth paragraph on this page, and pay special attention to the latter part ("... but if you ever accuse me...") of the paragraph. What is Captain Lewis saying to Charbonneau there?
I think he wanted not going to tolerate Carbonneau's ignorance even if he had to have him get off the ship, because he was jeopardizing Bird Woman and Pomp.
I thought that Captain Lewis was telling Charbonneau that he only cares about himself and not other people.

ReplyDeleteAnd that Bird Woman and Pomp will die because he only wants himself to get home safely, and he doesn't care if Bird woman or Pomp die.

ReplyDeleteCharbonneau was telling the Captain that he was just using Bird Woman to get horses but he is jeopoardizing a member of the party.
ReplyDeleteI think he as telling him that if he wont help out he will have no problem getting rid of him.
ReplyDeleteI think he was telling him that if he will not help anyone he will have to fire him.

ReplyDeleteI think that he was saying that if he did not want to help that he would get fired.
ReplyDeleteI think he was saying that if he ever blamed him for putting a member of the expedition in danger nothing would protect him.
