Try to put yourself in the place of the Oto Indians. How do you think you would have felt about the message of Captain Lewis's speech? Why would you have felt that way?
If i was an Oto Indian, when Lewis said the president was our only father I would have thought about the chief, and how he is our leader. and when he said the president was the only one they could turn to for protection, can't the Oto's fight for themselves?
If I were a Oto Indian I would be angry and happy at the same time.I would be angry because they called us children and I would be happy because we got gifts and protection.
If I was an Oto Indian, I would feel a little bit mad because they called our tribe children. I would also feel offended because they do not think we can fight for our selves. I would also feel happy (a little) because they brought us gifts.
